Saw Palmetto Berry
Deep in the everglades of the southern U.S. are forests thick with what look like green sunrise silhouettes, thousands of them, spiking their angulated arms up into humid air like a zoo of saw-toothed alligators. When these curious shrubby beasts finally fruit out in the late summer, they produce the magical jewel that is the cherry-flavored saw palmetto berry. It’s a wonder they don’t call them the maraschino of the marsh!
