Kava Kava Root (Piper methysticum)

Say what? Kaa kaa? Catnip got your tongue or did you just try to say kava kava after having drunk an infusion of the root? We don’t advise trying to clearly pronounce much of anything with a numbed mouth, but do as you please. That’s all part of the great cultural mythos – as in its species, methysticum – of kava kava, a famous and highly significant ceremonial beverage originating in the Pacific. Kava got your tongue again? It’s so nice, you must say it twice!

As for the dirt on why, how, and when to use this herb, it’s up to you to hit the books / browsers and do a little sleuthing of your own. We’ll be here for you if you need a hand – or an herb – to hold.

Try a kava drink yourself! 1 cup of water, a bit of milk (if desired), 1 tablespoon of powdered root. Steep in cold or warm water (hot water is not generally used) for up to an hour or overnight in the fridge, then strain and enjoy.
