Unique, Natural, & Sacred: The 2017 Gift Guide

The 2017 Gift Guide is here!

I love walking into Herbiary.

Okay, most days I love walking into Herbiary. Yesterday I cruised in as the team was unpacking a shipment of valerian root. Can you say gym socks with a side of horse urine? Whew! That's some crazy stench!

Seriously though, most days walking into Herbiary is a slice of calm, a bit of rejuvenation. My whole nervous system unwinds when I take my first deep breath of the mingled scents of, literally, hundreds of plants.

Herbiary is my place to gather my favorite things and share them with you. It's my way of enticing you to fall in love with the green world. So this year, I put together a gift guide to help you choose things for yourself or the folks on your list who need a smidge of green. Gorgeous things gathered from around the world, and right close to home. Things that will delight your senses and bring joy to your holiday giving.

Because Herbiary carries Medicine not just for the body but also for the spirit; choose gifts that give you joy.

As I turn my thoughts toward gratitude and thanks, know that I (and the entire Herbiary team) are grateful to you. Thank you for your support and encouragement and delight in what we do.

Without further ado, here’s your 2017 Gift Guide!

1) Best Gift for Friends Who Wanna Get into Essential Oils but Hate Multi-Level Marketing

Essential Oil Starter Kit

Truth? This starter pack is a gateway drug. Three oils: lavender, lemon, and peppermint, plus two blends—mental clarity and stress recovery. One sniff of the Mental Clarity oil blend and you’re gonna be hooked. Plus lavender is indispensable in the kitchen; I reach for it whenever I forget how hot a pot handle is; lavender cools like nothing else. ($39.95)

2) Best Gift for Teachers, Hair Stylists, and the Woman Who Walks Your Dogs

Sachet by the Yard: Lavender or Eucalyptus/Lavender

There are always people on your list whom you don’t know very well: your hair stylist, therapist, your son’s flute teacher, and the woman who walks your dogs. What’s the perfect gift when you don’t know someone well enough for wine (do they like red or white?) but want something a bit more personal than a Starbuck’s gift card? These sachets by the yard are just the thing! Elegant yet quirky, whimsical yet useful, you look generous and classy without breaking the bank. Boom. Done! Another gift issue solved. ($24.00)

3) Most Unique Gift EVER!

Moroccan Lip Stain

This summer I raved about this stuff… and we sold out fast! As well we should have, because Moroccan lip stain is sensual, stunning, and old school. Picture this: a small earthenware bowl sits on your dressing table, you pull up a stool, and study yourself in the mirror. A little lip color, you think. So you put a few drops of water in the bowl, swirl it around with a brush, and paint your lips. What???? Yup. Just like that. And the color stays on for hours. Cleopatra has nothin’ on you, baby. Sexy like Cleopatra, who doesn’t want that? ($16.00)

4) Most Compliment-Provoking Beauty Product

Miriam's Skin Care

I lead a retreat every November. Many of the women come back year after year. This year my skin was all the talk. And this is my secret. Miriam’s Skin Care. Okay, upfront disclaimer: this is not for vegans or vegetarians. Miriam’s is made from tallow, which is gently rendered animal oil. Grass-fed tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, K, and E. It also has 18 micronutrients, like zinc and calcium as well as conjugated linoleic acid. Once you get over the fat on your face factor, you’re gonna love the results. At least if your love everyone telling you how fabulous you look. ($26.00-$29.00)

5) Best Lunar Datebook ('Cause Everyone Needs One!)

I buy one of these every year: the iconic astrological datebook is a best-selling moon calendar, earth-spirited handbook in natural rhythms, and visionary collection of women’s creative work now in its 37th year of publication. ($19.95)

6) Best Gift Books for Cooks and Crafters

DIY Bitters

Whether you’re into craft cocktails or herbal concoctions, this book's for you! Written by my friend Jovial King, alongside Guido Masse, her fellow-founder of Urban Moonshine. DIY Bitters will teach you how to make recipes for classic bitters like orange and angostura, or explore more innovative bitters like elderflower-echinacea-honey and chocolate love tonic. You can even find a guide for creating your own unique flavors from the plants and ingredients you have on hand. ($24.99)

Recipes from the Herbalist's Kitchen

I’m a cookbook junkie. And this one? It’s lovely and lush. Herbalist Brittany Wood Nickerson's original recipes offer delightful and often unexpected combinations, from Lavender and Dandelion Flower Muffins and Rosemary-Olive Oil Tea Cake to Garlic-Stuffed Roast Pork and Red Grape Chimichurri with Dill and Oregano. Yes, please! ($24.95)

7) Best Sacred Stuff

Moon & Jai Kits

I saw these on Instagram and fell in love! Moon & Jai kits contain everything you need to begin creating intentional and powerful rituals making it the perfect gift for someone just discovering their witchy ways. As the creator of the kit promises: This magic box transforms into travel altar—a gift for the bohemian Soul in your life—a tool for creating magic and manifesting positive shifts in your life—a reminder to expand your spiritual practice—anything you intend for it to be. ($39.50)

Sacred Altar Spray

So yummy! Use this lush combo of Sandalwood, Bay, Palo Santo, Cedar, and Marigold to sanctify your sacred space. Handcrafted by Ash Sierra, who worked at Herbiary, Asheville until her business, Ritual Botanica, began skyrocketing. Sniff for yourself and see why we can’t keep Ash’s products on the shelf! ($15.00)

8) Best Gifts for Tea Lovers

Jahmu Chai Tea

I got addicted to this stuff a few years back when I was teaching at the New England Women’s Herbal Conference. It’s delicious and soooo easy. Just add water. No steeping, no tea bags, no mess. Perfect for when you’re on the go but still crave a decadent cup of deliciousness! ($3.50 - $30.00)

Urban Tea Tumbler

Andrew and I have about seventeen tea travel mugs. We’re constantly buying and trying, but it’s a bit like Goldilocks and the 3 Bears: this one's too small, that one’s too leaky. and the other’s impossible to clean. Then we found the Urban Tea Tumbler. It doesn’t get any better then this; I should know—I tried the other sixteen. Tea aficionados, this one’s for you. ($30.00)

Wishing you a wondrous holiday season. Ultimately this season is about joy and connect: with yourself, with those you love, and with the magical world around you. It's not about stuff... unless the stuff helps you step into joyful connection.

Big Hugs—
